Water pollution control

One decisive fundamental element for all life is water. In highly industrialised, densely populated nations like Germany the rule must be to sustainably protect the purity and quality of this vital commodity.

This also influences the selection of technical solutions for the planning, construction and operation of electricity networks and is reflected in the conditions established in environmental legislation. With respect to water pollution control, the operating fluids containing insulation oil in switchgear, substations and distribution network stations should be mentioned here in particular. Essentially, these are transformers, but switchgear, transducers, coils and capacitors can also be effected. As Amprion operates network transformers of the widest range of ratings and types, the topic of water pollution control is of special significance. Oil can escape from a transformer only in the event of a fault. However, all Amprion systems are provided with capture and protection devices to prevent ground of water contamination. At locations in designated water protection zones (water and medicinal spring protection zones), special requirements under water legislation must be met above and beyond the basic requirements.

As a further contribution to water pollution control, we are minimising the use of fresh water in operational processes and are operating more systems for local removal of pure rainwater by way of seepage, at the same time relieving the public drains system.
